Pamela Chair

The Perfect Chair - back

The Perfect Chair - back

I think this chair is perfect.  It blends a contemporary-rustic finish on the wood and large scaled traditional fabrics.  The proportions are great, it’s comfortable and it’s covered with two fabulous fabrics from my Fleur de Lys Home Finery Signature line.  The embroidered cotton fabric on the front of the chair is called “Pamela” in deep taupe.  The plaid linen on the back of the chair is called “Pete’s Plaid” in taupe.  It also features a double welt done in a coordinating velvet.

The retail price on this chair as shown is $1,900 plus freight and delivery.

Out my front door.

We just got hit with the biggest snowstorm I’ve seen in years.  Great day to bake cookies and write out the last of my Christmas cards.  Also a great day to look forward to vacation in Florida!!

I Love Embroidered Fabrics

I’ll admit it – I LOVE embroidered fabrics.  It doesn’t matter to me if the embroidery is done on silk, velvet, cotton or jute – I love them all!

My new private label line – Fleur de Lys Home Finery features crewel fabrics and will have coordinating solids, and even some wallpapers next season.

I’ve also been seeing embroideries in magazines lately.  Here are some pictures that show a more contemporary side of embroidery used by some very savvy designers.  Aren’t they fabulous?

Color Trends

I’ve noticed a color trend or should I say  a “lack of color” trend that I find interesting.  The trend I’m referring to I call “PALED”.  From cars to Christmas decorations,  the colors seem to be softer, a little less defined.  My tree this year is adorned with ornaments in golds, creams, silvers, and clear glass with white lights.  Wrapping papers are soft golds, greens, cream and silver along with coordinating ribbons.  Altogether, a very soft look.

I got a new car in February – it’s a pale gold – like champagne.  My husband’s new SUV is almost the same color as is my daughter’s new Mini-van.  We didn’t plan this either.

I went retailing the other day in a hip store, looking for a cool gift for my daughter.  A lack of any serious color, except for red, was noticeable.  There were plenty of blacks, greys, browns, creams, taupes, and beiges though.

I was watching Candice Olson the other day, and she did a stunning room, all in very pale tones and it was truly beautiful.   It felt calm and relaxing, but had the touch of sparkle that sets her designs apart.  Check out her newest line of wallpapers from York called Dimensional Surfaces – lots of pale tones there as well.

Is this a reflection of our economy?  Are we anticipating holding on to things longer and afraid to choose a color that might seem trendy and outdated by next year?  Hmmm.
